According to the official website of Tesla China as of Tuesday Beijing Time, buyers for either of its on-sale models can wait for as soon as one week for the delivery. Specifically, the delivery waiting time range of two versions of Model 3 including the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Performance,as well as two versions of Model Y including the Long Range and the Performance,is now between one week to five weeks, down from the previous range of four to eight weeks, while the delivery time of the Model Y RWD is adjusted to one to five weeks, slightly longer compared with the previous one to four weeks.

The delivery progress came days after data showed Tesla’s gap between outputs and delivery increased in Shanghai, which has already highlighted in the results for the third quarter. The U.S. electric vehicle giant delivered 71,704 units in China in October, falling 13.7% from its record delivery made in September, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) last week. China Merchants Bank International (CMBI) then estimated the gap of inventory increased to 16,002 units in October as Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory produced a total o 87,706 Model 3s and Model Ys that month. CMBI suggests Tesla Shanghai added inventory at its fastest ever pace since the monthly gap was the biggest since Shanghai factory started operation in late 2019.

In an earnings call last month,Zachary Kirkhorn,Tesla’s Chief Financial Officer, noted the quarter ended in September saw bigger-than-expected restrictions on logistics, which is a challenge as imminent as the supply chain bottleneck. Kirkhorn said the growth rate of delivery this year is expected to be less than 50% for there is a gap between production and delivery.

Days after the call,Tesla China launched its first price cuts since the beginning of the year. Involving all the versions of Model 3 and Model Y,the cuts saw the Model Y Long Range as version with the biggest adjustment of RMB37,000,or a decline of 9.4%. The move was unsurprised for the industry for Tesla has offered one-time subsidy of RMB8,000 to new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered from September 16 to 30,which was seemed to pay way for its future price cuts.
